ROFL! Awesome dude. :)

This is quite coincidental...

I'm watching a documentary right now by Bill Maher, called "Religulous"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0815241/

I also watched "Zeitgeist" a couple weekends ago
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1166827/

I highly suggest both of them.

Now, I've never been very high on religion to begin with... but these ones really point out some of the flaws. :)

EDIT: I think I need to quantify my statement. We'll take the bible for example... I don't believe for a second that it's the "word of god", but if someone wants to believe it is, I'm not going to argue with them.
I do, however, think the bible is full of wonderful stories... stories that aren't necessarily true, but they are stories that teach great morals and ethics. They are stories not to be taken literally, but figuratively.

I LOVE Religulous! My favorite part was when the airplane flew by during the crucifixion!
I do need to watch Zeitgeist though.

It's hilarious watching religious folks being asked questions... then watching their reactions.
Simple questions with simple observations that they simply can't answer, because they're just not allowing themselves to open themselves to a possibility that they might be wrong.

Humans hate being wrong.

Me? I *LOVE* being wrong. Why? Because it means I have learned something new. There are very few opinions and beliefs that I hold that I would stubbornly hold "just because".
Do I get "antsy" when someone is telling me something which turns out to blow away one of my beliefs? Sure! I'm only human afterall... and change isn't something I'm comfortable with.

Such is life. :)

I love when that senator says something like "Its a good thing you don't need to pass an IQ test to be a senator" or something like that. Some people make themselves out to be such morons man, i loved that doco.

Zeitgiest is also pretty mindblowing how it goes into how these religios stories were constructed, it kinda makes logical sense our ancestors would have looked at the stars with such wonder and would have gotten most of their stories from them. I mean, how could the explain what they are at that time? The part about mindreading devices sorta lost me though....

And then slowly, the look on his face after he realized what he just said. Classic. LoL

I actually had no idea about all those "saviour" stories until I saw that... it simply further reinforced the opinion I already held. LoL
The unfortunate part is how humanity has taken that story and re-used it over and over again over the centuries... and hardly anyone has really noticed.

So am I... did you by any chance get it off Facebook... listing 10 documentaries?

'Zeitgeist' is the next one on my list.

'Religulous' was brilliant. I think he was lucky to find the right people to interview. Overall it was an excellent though.

'Religulous' was one I watched when i was still a Christian and I would have gladly strangled the guy. I was such an idiot not too terribly long ago.

I will have to watch it again because I'm sure I will laugh my ass off this time. Don't get me wrong I'm 110% certain that Jesus was real. He was a great philosopher and a man of high morals and virtue. But the son of God....pfttt.

Actually, the girl I share my work space with at work suggested it to me after I began telling her about Zeitgeist. lol

Found it on Netflix. :D

Oh I can definitely understand feeling like that. The questions Bill was asking and the WAY he was asking them was kind of confrontational... I'm not big on that really, so I wasn't ENTIRELY comfortable watching it. But I did stick it out and I'm glad I did. Wonderful documentary.

I haven't watched them yet, but I've heard worlds about them...

Yeah, there's many wonderful stories in the Bible and great lessons to learn. Jesus was the shit. But I think people miss the point when they cloud their mind with hardcore cut-throat belief. It just kills it for me.

I asked a friend in high school that if the bus suddenly crashed and we all died, would a completely innocent kid of a different religion go to heaven or hell. His reaction was like I had just shot gunned him at point blank. Then he composed himself and said that only people who had accepted Jesus as their savior would be allowed to enter heaven.

Seriously?

I'm not interested in being in such an exclusive club. I'd rather be a good person and have faith that I'll be alright in the end than sit on a little comfy chair of delusion.

End rant.

Edit: haha! The ad on this page is for horoscopes.

This reminds me of something that happened yesterday. A friend of mine called me up saying that he had just read his horoscope, knowing that I don't outright discount them but I believe the horoscopes printed in the paper are all junk.

Then he quickly changed the subject and after a little chit chat, he asked to borrow three hundred bucks. I know he's good for so it so I told him sure but he had to come get it. When he got to my house he brought the horoscope and showed it to me after I gave him the money.

It read something like this: Do not hesitate to ask a generous person for some financial help who has helped you out in the past. You will not encounter any resistance from them today.

Or some crap close to that.

I got Casinos in the ad. Maybe it's all a crapshoot? And, no, I don't believe so.

Once I discovered the Law of Attraction I never had a need for religion again.

The 2 laws to be most respected are:

1. Law of Cause and Effect
2. Law of Attraction

Have those two concepts helped you that much?
Would it be possible if you could provide an example of each of those for us? :)
